The Lute women improved their conference record to 2-1 with an
easy 140-54 victory, while the Lute men are also now 2-1 after their
121-46 win. In both meets, the Lutes benefited from having significantly
bigger rosters than the Boxers. The number advantage allowed PLU
head coach Jim Johnson to swim many of his athletes in what are
normally non-traditional events.
On the women’s side, PLU event winners were Molly
Tonder in the 1000 freestyle, Jaisa
Farleigh in the 200 freestyle, Jessie
Donovan in the 50 freestyle, Katelyn
Umetsu in the 200 butterfly, Shallae
Eugley in the 100 freestyle and Katie
Crawford in the 500 freestyle. Of that list, only Donovan
had previously won an event this season. The Lutes also won the
400 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay.
Alex Prigge won two events for Pacific, taking the 200 backstroke
and the 200 breaststroke. Allison Curtis was victorious in the 200
individual medley.
In men’s action, PLU swept the relays as Pacific had only
two swimmers in the meet. Those two were sharp, however, winning
five of the 10 contested events. Nathan Smith won the 50 freestyle,
200 individual medley and 200 backstroke, while Kai Seixas triumphed
in the 100 freestyle and 200 breaststroke.
Pacific Lutheran event winners were Patrick
Carlisle in the 200 freestyle, Jason
Hesla in the 200 butterfly and Zach
Pfrimmer in the 500 freestyle. The Lutes won both relay
events. For Carlisle and Pfrimmer, the wins were their first of
the season.
