The Northwest Invitational swim meet came to a close today at the
Pacific Lutheran pool and when all was said and done the Lutes proved
they were for real this year. The men’s team placed second
out of the nine-team field with 410 points behind Linfield, which
scored 505. The women’s team finished fourth in a 10-team
competition won for the second straight year by Lewis & Clark.
Highlights for the Lutes from day two included three different individual
event winners. Jason
Helsa led the charge by winning the 100 and 200 yard
breaststroke in times of 1:04.25 and 2:21.77. Matthew
Kim was the other individual winner on the men’s
side with a victory in the 100 yard butterfly in a time of 55.57.
Jessie Donovan
was today’s only winner on the women’s team. Donovan
tied her season best of 1:00.51 in the 100 yard backstroke, good
enough for the win.
Other highlights from day two include the pair from Lewis &
Clark College of Lindsay Nixon and Koy Collier. Nixon won the 400
yard IM and 100 yard butterfly while Collier won the 200 yard freestyle
and the 100 yard freestyle. They were named the outstanding female
swimmers of the meet.
This meet marks the end of competition of the Lutes until January.
The next meet is January 12, against Lewis & Clark in Portland,
Ore.
