SWIMMING: PLU Hosts Whitman in Conference Swim Dual

THIS WEEK: Pacific Lutheran hosts Whitman, Saturday, 1 p.m.

LUTES FACE MISSIONARIES: The Lutes return to Northwest Conference dual meet action at 1 p.m. Saturday when they host the Whitman Missionaries. The PLU men and women both have 2-1 dual meet records, while the Whitman women are 2-0 and the men 1-1.

BATTLE OF THE PACIFICS GOES TO LUTHERANS: Pacific Lutheran rode the strength of sheer numbers to a sweep of a Northwest Conference swimming meet with the host Pacific Boxers last Friday night in Forest Grove, Ore. The PLU men beat the Boxers, 138-59, while the Lute women won by a score of 145-48. Freshman Jay Jones led the PLU men with a pair of victories, taking top honors in the 400-yard individual medley (4:27.56) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:17.00). Jones also swam a leg on PLU's winning 400 medley relay team (3:46.64). Other PLU winners in the men's competition were Bryce Manso in the 1000 freestyle (11:57.51), Ben Lilly in the 50 freestyle (22.68), Alex Limoges in the 200 butterfly (2:12.94), Andy Stetzler in the 100 freestyle (49.79), and Luke Thomas in the 500 freestyle (5:01.42). Another Lute freshman, Jessie Klauder, paced the Lute women with a pair of victories, winning the 400-yard individual medley (4:50.95) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:35.41). Other PLU winners were Alyssa Zakzewski in the 1000 freestyle (12:46.02), Dayna Blauvelt in the 200 freestyle (2:07.02), Laura Brade in the 200 butterfly (2:26.00), Tara Johnson in the 100 freestyle (1:00.96), and Casey Jackson in the 200 backstroke (2:22.88). The Lutes also won the 400 medley relay (4:25.71) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:55.41).

LUTES SPLIT WITH LINFIELD: The Pacific Lutheran women and the Linfield men won by convincing scores in a conference meet held last Saturday afternoon in McMinnville, Ore. Freshman Jessie Klauder had a big day for the Lute women, winning the 200 individual medley (2:17.30), the 100 freestyle (56.09) and the 500 freestyle (5:32.39) as PLU recorded a resounding 147-55 victory. Other PLU women winning events were Tara Johnson in the 1000 freestyle (11:50.53), Dayna Blauvelt in the 50 freestyle (26.77), Jessie Donovan in the 100 backstroke (1:01.35) and Lacey Wear in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.70). In addition, the Lutes also won both the 200 medley relay (time not listed) and the 200 freestyle relay (1:46.12). In all, the Lutes won nine of the 11 events. With four swimmers each winning a pair of events, the Wildcats won the men's event, 120-84. Linfield's Josh Parfitt, Kevin Caple, Dominic Rieniets and Yusuke Kobayashi each won a pair of events, and that foursome combined to hold off the Lutes to win the 200 freestyle relay. Pacific Lutheran's victories came in the opening event, the 200 medley relay (1:44.77), and from freshman Jay Jones in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.02).
