Lutes Hold Slim Lead After
First Day at Northwest Invitational

McMINNVILLE, Ore. - Jay Jones won two events to lead
the Pacific Lutheran men to a slim lead after Friday's first day
of the Northwest Invitational swimming meet hosted by Linfield College.
The Lutes scored 310 points to lead Linfield by six
points. Whitman is in third with 272, followed by College of Idaho
with 193, Pacific with 164, Puget Sound with 127, Willamette with
122 and Lewis & Clark with 121. The PLU women are not competing
in the women's portion of the Northwest Invitational.
Jones, a freshman from Vancouver's Mt. View High School,
led the Lutes in the 200 individual medley and the 200 butterfly.
Jones won the IM in a time of 1:59.30 and the fly with a time of
1:59.93, followed by Luke Thomas in fourth (2:12.89) and Kyle Maxwell
in fifth (2:17.25).
Andy Stetzler finished second in the 500 freestyle
(4:50.42), followed by teammates Ben Lilley in fourth (5:03.03),
Thomas in fifth (5:06.33) and Maxwell in sixth (5:13.34). Alex Limoges
finished second in the 200 backstroke (2:01.55) and Trevor Olson
placed fifth in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.38) and seventh in the
100 freestyle (51.50). The Lutes closed out the evening with a second-place
performance in the 400 medley relay (3:42.67).
The meet concludes on Saturday with prelims starting
at 9:30 a.m. and finals at 5:30 p.m.
