| Katie Choate - meet record in 800 |
TACOMA, Wash. - It was a big day for Pacific Lutheran women track
& field athletes from Oregon at Friday's UPS Open. Two freshmen
and a senior, all from Oregon and members of the Pacific Lutheran
women's track & field team, set records at the meet held on
a rainy Friday afternoon at the University of Puget Sound's Baker
Stadium.
Katie Choate, a freshman from Astoria, won the 800-meter run in
a meet record and collegiate personal best 2:21.06. Karin Hatch,
a freshman from Portland, took down the meet record in the javelin
with a throw of 127-1, also her collegiate personal best. Her performance
ranks 17th on PLU's all-time top 25 list in that event. Megan Wochnick,
a senior from Wilsonville, broke her own meet record in the hammer
throw with a heave of 161-5.
Two other Oregon products finished in the top three in their event.
Sophomore Faven Araya from Portland placed second in the 100-meter
hurdles in a time of 15.84. That mark ranks her 17th on the all-time
top 25 list at PLU. Finally, Portland native Amy LeBrun placed third
in the 200 in a time of 27.43.
