SALEM – With just one final opportunity to improve their
marks prior to selections for the NCAA Division III National Championships,
Pacific Lutheran track and field athletes Taylor Hacker, Megan Wochnick,
and Karin Hatch wanted to throw huge and set season best marks.
All three throwers already had achieved the NCAA provisional standard
earlier this season.
Hacker led the way in the hammer with almost an 11-foot improvement
on her previous best throw from this season. Her toss of 163-9 is
currently good for 15th in the nation. Megan Wochnick didn’t
have the same size improvement but her toss of 162-5 in the hammer
was a foot better than her old mark, letting her jump two other
throwers in the national rankings to move up to 17th. Freshman Javelin
thrower Karen Hatch made the most of her final appearance by improving
her previous best mark by over a foot when she threw 132-3. Hatch
moved up one spot in the national rankings to 15th.
Along with the throwing trio, hurdling ace Faven Araya has also
hit the provisional mark for the national meet in the 400-meter
hurdles. Faven is currently 11th in the nation. The NCAA Division
III national meet is scheduled for May 24-26 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
