TRACK & FIELD: Lutes Host First Home
Meet Since 2003 Season
THIS WEEK: Pacific Lutheran hosts the first-ever
PLU Invitational on Saturday, March 17. Field events get underway
at 9 a.m. and track events start at 10 a.m.
FINALLY, A HOME MEET: It’s been a long wait
– the 2003 Northwest Conference championship meet to be exact
– but Pacific Lutheran once again will host a track meet on
its own facility. The PLU Invitational is scheduled for this Saturday
morning and afternoon. The first event, the women’s hammer
throw, gets underway at 9 a.m. The track events start at 10 a.m.
with a combined men and women’s 10,000-meter run. The PLU
Invitational is expected to last until approximately 4 p.m. A total
of 228 athletes have been entered in the meet. They represent 10
different schools, and there are a small number of unattached athletes
also competing. Among the schools joining Pacific Lutheran are Central
Washington, Western Washington, Alaska Anchorage, Cascade College,
Evergreen State and Saint Martin’s. A couple of competitors
from USC and Washington are also entered.
A LITTLE MORE ABOUT THE PLU INVITATIONAL: The Pacific Lutheran
Invitational takes the place of the annual Salzman Invitational,
which attracted some of the top track and field teams from Northwest.
While the Salzman was always a scored meet, the PLU Invitational
will not be scored.
