Hacker and Kreier Receive Indoor West Region
Honors
A pair of Lutes picked up West Region honors yesterday when the
United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association
announced the All-Region team. Junior Taylor Hacker was named west
region field athlete of the year and head coach Heather Kreier was
named west region coach of the year.
Hacker, a junior from Gig Harbor, had a short but successful indoor
season. In three meets Hacker threw over 50 feet in the weight throw,
topped by a 51-3½ effort at the Husky Classic in Seattle.
Hacker’s season best throw hit the provisional mark for the
NCAA Division III national meet and ranks her 24th nationally. Along
with her success indoors Hacker is very competitive in the outdoor
season as well. She competed in the hammer throw at last spring’s
NCAA Outdoor Championships.
For fourth-year head coach Heather Kreier this was the second time
she’s received west region coach of the year honors, the other
being in 2005 when Kreier coached Megan Wochnick to All-American
honors in the weight throw. This season there were a handful of
notable performances on the women’s team, highlighted by Hacker
in the weight throw.
