TACOMA, Wash. – Pacific Lutheran remained undefeated in
Northwest Conference play with a 31-29, 30-28, 31-29 sweep of
the Puget Sound Loggers on Wednesday night in Olson Auditorium.
The Lutes, who moved up to two spots to No. 21 in this week's
American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top 25 Coaches
Poll, improved their overall record to 17-4 and their conference
mark to 11-0. Puget Sound dropped to 13-5 overall and 8-3 in conference
play.
The Lutes won the first game, 31-29, with the trio of Kati McGinn,
Stacie Matz, and Kelcy Joynt combining for 15 of the Lutes' 17
kills. Puget Sound kept the game close but couldn’t put
the Lutes away at 29-29. The Lutes then battled back to pull out
the victory in the first game.
The second and third games were very similar with the lead going
back and forth, neither team being able to pull away. The Loggers
had a chance to send the match into a fourth game with the lead
at 29-28 but the Lutes were able to rally to 30-29 and finally
put the game away.
With this win the Lutes keep their win streak alive at 12 straight
matches. The school record was set back 2004 when the Northwest
Conference championship team won 15 straight, including 14 straight
in conference play.
Pacific Lutheran returns to action at 7 p.m. Saturday, traveling
to Salem, Ore. to play the Willamette Bearcats.
