PLU Volleyball Makes Whitworth its Eighth

SPOKANE, Wash. – Pacific Lutheran won for the eighth straight
time Saturday night, defeating host Whitworth by a 30-20, 30-26,
30-20 score in a Northwest Conference volleyball match.
During its eight-match winning streak, Pacific Lutheran has won
24 games and lost only one. The Lutes are now 12-3 for the season
and remain atop the Northwest Conference with a 6-0 record.
The Lutes, ranked No. 17 in this week’s American Volleyball
Coaches Association Division III national poll, rode the second
straight night of strong hitting from Beth Hanna and Kelcy Joynt.
Hanna, a freshman outside hitter, finished the match with 20 kills
and a .318 attack percentage, one night after cranking out 15
kills in the Lutes’ sweep of Whitman. Joynt, a sophomore
middle blocker who led the Lutes with 16 kills against Whitman,
had 13 kills and hit .267 against Whitworth.
Both players also had strong defensive games as well as Hanna
led the Lutes with 16 digs and Joynt added 13 more. Hanna also
finished the match with four service aces.
Senior setter Gina Di Maggio continued her outstanding floor
leadership with 37 assists, while senior libero Megan Kosel chipped
in with 14 digs.
