Kevin Aoki, who has led Pacific Lutheran to Northwest Conference championships in 1999, 2004 and 2006, has posted a 179-106 record in 11 years as head coach of his alma mater's volleyball program.  Entering the 2007 season, Aoki ranks 47th among active Division III volleyball coaches with a .628 winning percentage. He has been named the conference Coach of the Year three times (1999, 2004 and 2006) and in 2004 was selected as the AVCA West Region Coach of the Year.

The Hawai'i native came to the Pacific Lutheran volleyball program in the fall of 1996 with a wealth of high school coaching experience. He led the Bethel High School program for 12 seasons, compiling an impressive 171-82 match record, including four seasons in which the team won at least 20 contests. His Bethel teams were 111-35 in league play, winning five titles. In addition, nine of his teams qualified for the state tournament, with the 1992 squad finishing fourth. During the summer of 1995 he served as a coach in the Washington All-State volleyball match, and six of his former prep players are now coaching at the junior or senior high levels.

Aoki, 44, received his bachelor's degree in physical education in 1984 from Pacific Lutheran University. While attending PLU, Aoki served as volunteer assistant coach of the women's volleyball program in 1983. He also played on the Lute men's club team. He earned his master's in Educational Technology from City University in 1995. In high school, Aoki attended Iolani School in Honolulu, where as a defensive specialist he helped his team to a second-place finish in the boys' prep state volleyball tournament.

A math teacher at Bethel Junior High School, Aoki also serves as ninth grade girls basketball coach. Aoki, his wife Bethany and their sons, Aiden and Brennan, live in Puyallup. Bethany is a 1999 PLU graduate.
