Pacific Lutheran University women’s basketball standout Nikki
Johnson has been selected as a preseason second team
All-American by D3hoops.com. Johnson is not only the lone athlete
from the Northwest Conference to make the list, she is also the
only athlete from the entire West Coast to be selected as a preseason
All-American.
Johnson is the reigning Northwest Conference MVP. She led the Lutes
last season to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Division III national tournament.
Averaging 14 points and 9.8 rebounds a game, Johnson helped PLU
to a 24-4 record and the conference title last winter, making it
the program's fifth crown in the past nine seasons. In those nine
season the Lutes have finished no worse then third in the conference.
In the NWC preseason coaches poll, the Lutes were picked to defend
their title, receiving seven of the nine first-place votes.
The season starts for the Lutes on November 17 at the UPS Tip-Off
Classic. PLU will play the California Lutheran University Regals
at 2 p.m. NWC play begins on the December 1 when the Lutes host
the Linfield College Wildcats.
