TACOMA, Wash. – Nikki
Johnson scored a career-high 32 points and grabbed
10 rebounds to lead Pacific Lutheran to an 84-47 non-conference
women’s basketball victory over visiting Northwest University
on Saturday night.
Johnson, a senior wing from Tenino, hit 13-of-17 from the field,
including both of her three-point field goal attempts. She scored
14 of her points in the opening half and closed the game with an
18-point second half outburst while making all nine of her field
goal attempts.
Johnson's 32 points ranks sixth on the PLU single-game scoring
list. Tanya Wilson set the record of 36 points against Whitman on
Jan. 28, 1995. Johnson's 13 field goals equals the school record
for field goals made in a game.
PLU senior post Kezia
Long also had a strong game with 20 points and 10 rebounds,
hitting 8-of-12 shots from the field and 4-of-5 from the foul stripe.
Long and Johnson led the Lutes to a 46-35 rebound advantage.
Northwest, which shot just 28 percent for the game after a dismal
20 percent effort in the first half, was led by Brittney Marshall’s
14 points.
Pacific Lutheran, 6-3 for the season, returns to action on Dec.
27 when it travels to Portland, Ore., for a game against Concordia.
The Lutes then host the PLU Classic on Dec. 29-30 at Olson Auditorium.
