PARKLAND – Behind senior Kyle Haag’s
20 point performance Pacific Lutheran beat visiting Warner Pacific
64-36 tonight in a non-conference women’s basketball game
in Olson auditorium.
The Lutes, 3-1 on the season, put together a 12-0
run at the start of the game and never looked back. Warner Pacific,
who falls to 2-3, didn’t score their first points until
seven minutes into the game when they made it 12-2. That was the
closest they would come to PLU the rest of the night.
The first half was all PLU as seven different players
contributed baskets, including Haag who tailed 13 points and went
3-of-7 from behind the arch. The Lutes led much of the first half
and a three pointer at the 13 minute mark by Haag gave the black
and gold a 22 point lead. The Knights staged a comeback as Sally
Brown scored two layups to finish the half pulling Warner Pacific
within 12 going into the locker room.
Amy Spieker caught on fire in the second half scoring
11 of her 14 points while adding a team high five assists. A jumper
from junior Meghan Dowling gave PLU a 20 point led six minutes
into the second half. Warner Pacific couldn’t over come
their cold shooting as they went 0-13 from three-land. As a team
they shot just under 29 percent from the field.
Dowling was in double digits in the point column
as she scored 10. Dowling, along with teammate Emily Voorhies,
grabbed eight boards for the Lutes, giving PLU the advantage in
rebounds, 52-to-35.
Warner Pacific’s Stephanie Rider was the top
scorer for the Knights with seven. Danica Wilson led WP in rebounds
with eight.
Pacific Lutheran is in action next week as they
host Concordia on Dec. 7th.
