OLYMPIA – Freshman Jenny McKinsey scored
twice, including a goal in the first six minutes, as Pacific Lutheran
University earned its first victory over The Evergreen State College
women’s soccer team in two years, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon.
The Lutes, 3-1 this season, scored with just 5:28
gone when McKinsey tapped in a long pass from Bre’ Greenman.
McKinsey’s second goal of the game and the season came when
she blasted home a shot from 15 yards out on the left wing 20
minutes before the end of the game.
The game was something of oddity in that PLU out
shot the Geoducks just 8-7 and had no corner kicks to Evergreen’s
three, the Lutes came away with a relatively decisive victory.
Evergreen goalkeeper Carly Stewart turned in a five-save performance
while Alyssa Blackburn (80 minutes) and Kamryn Morgan (10 minutes)
shared the shutout for PLU.
