PORTLAND, Ore. - Freshman midfielder Jenny McKinsey scored her
eighth goal of the season with 27 seconds remaining in the second
overtime as Pacific Lutheran defeated the host Lewis & Clark
Pioneers, 1-0, in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match
played Saturday afternoon.
McKinsey scored on a header from a corner kick served up by another
PLU freshman midfielder, Jill Trumbull.
The match was a tightly played affair through regulation and
the two overtime periods. Pacific Lutheran did not allow the Pioneers
a shot in either overtime period while getting two in the first
10-minute extra session. Those shots by sophomore forward Christina
McDuffie and McKinsey were saved by L&C goalkeeper Nora Germano.
She was not able to stop McKinsey as the clock ticked down, however,
and the Lutes picked up the win.
Germano finished with four saves, while PLU junior Alyssa Blackburn
went all the way, recording four saves to get her sixth shutout
of the season. PLU had 11 total shots to eight for the hosts.
With the win, the Lutes improve to 9-3-1 overall and 6-2-1 in
the conference. The Pioneers, meanwhile, fall to 3-9-1 overall
and 1-7-1 in the conference.
The Lutes return to Northwest Conference action on Sunday with
a match against the Pacific Boxers in Forest Grove, Ore.
