FOREST GROVE, Ore. - Pacific Lutheran won its fourth straight
Northwest Conference women's soccer match on Sunday afternoon,
defeating the host Pacific Boxers, 2-0, on rainy and slick Tom
Reynolds Field.
The Lutes (10-3-1 overall, 7-2-1 NWC) outshot Pacific 17-5 for
the match, scoring one goal in each half. The Lutes also held
a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal and a 9-4 margin in corner kicks.
PLU has now won four straight matches on two occasions this season.
Despite outshooting the Boxers (2-9-2 overall, 0-9-1 NWC) 7-2
in the first half, it took a penalty kick to put the Lutes on
the board. After the Boxers were called for a handball in the
penalty area in the 42nd minute, senior forward Nicole Veth buried
the shot into the upper left corner for her first goal of the
season
Pacific had several good scoring chances in the second half,
including hitting the crossbar with a header. The momentum shifted
PLU's way midway through the second half and the Lutes capitalized
when freshman midfielder Jenny McKinsey connected in the 77th
minute, hitting a chip shot from in front of Pacific goalkeeper
Sarah Chrusoskie. McKinsey leads the Lutes with nine goals this
season.
The Boxers had one more good chance in the 83rd minute, but a
close-range shot rolled just past the post. The Lutes successfully
cleared the ensuing corner kick and finished the game with their
10th shutout in 14 total matches.
PLU sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Tschaunder made three saves in
80 minutes of action, and sophomore Kamryn Morgan came off the
bench to make one stop in 10 minutes of work.
The Lutes return to Northwest Conference action on Wednesday,
hosting cross-town rival Puget Sound at 5:30 p.m. at Mt. Tahoma
High School.
