Match Statistics

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Linfield struck quickly and withstood a strong second-half surge by Pacific Lutheran on Saturday to win the final game of the Northwest Conference women’s soccer season, 3-0.

The Wildcats ended a six-game losing streak and finished with a record of 4-10-2 in the conference and 6-12-2 overall. PLU finished 8-6-2 in the conference and 11-7-2 overall.

Linfield scored twice in the first 15 minutes and controlled the first half, but PLU dominated everything but the scoreboard in the rain- and wind-swept second half.

Almost the entire second half was played on Linfield’s half of the field, but PLU’s aggressive offense ultimately cost the Lutes. PLU led Linfield in second-half shots, 12-0, until the final 1:23, when Linfield scored the final goal.

Linfield keeper Allison Cartmill made nine of her 11 saves in the second half. They included tipping a curving corner kick by Breann Vanden Bos over the goal, coming out of her box to block a bullet by Brittney Beitel, making a diving stop of another Beitel shot, and stopping Jill Trumbull’s dead-on shot from in front of the goal.

Beitel led shooters for both teams with four, three on goal. PLU led in shots, 17-9,and in shots on goal, 12-5.
