Linfield Defeats Lutes in Season Finale,
3-0

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Linfield struck quickly and withstood
a strong second-half surge by Pacific Lutheran on Saturday to win
the final game of the Northwest Conference women’s soccer
season, 3-0.
The Wildcats ended a six-game losing streak and finished with a
record of 4-10-2 in the conference and 6-12-2 overall. PLU finished
8-6-2 in the conference and 11-7-2 overall.
Linfield scored twice in the first 15 minutes and controlled the
first half, but PLU dominated everything but the scoreboard in the
rain- and wind-swept second half.
Almost the entire second half was played on Linfield’s half
of the field, but PLU’s aggressive offense ultimately cost
the Lutes. PLU led Linfield in second-half shots, 12-0, until the
final 1:23, when Linfield scored the final goal.
Linfield keeper Allison Cartmill made nine of her 11 saves in the
second half. They included tipping a curving corner kick by Breann
Vanden Bos over the goal, coming out of her box to block a bullet
by Brittney Beitel, making a diving stop of another Beitel shot,
and stopping Jill Trumbull’s dead-on shot from in front of
the goal.
Beitel led shooters for both teams with four, three on goal. PLU
led in shots, 17-9,and in shots on goal, 12-5.
