Lutes Defeat Willamette in Women's Tennis,
Improve to 3-0

TACOMA, Wash. - Pacific Lutheran improved its season and Northwest
Conference women's tennis record to 3-0 with a 7-2 victory over
the Willamette Bearcats on Saturday afternoon at the UPS Tennis
Pavilion.
The Lutes started out the match by winning all three doubles points.
PLU's No. 1 doubles team of Erika
Feltus and Nicole
Petrzelka defeated Alaine Anderson and Tiffany Kam,
8-5, to get the Lutes off to a solid start. Megan
Proffitt and Ashley
Coats combined for an 8-4 win over Susan Butler and
Becca Younger at No. 2 doubles, and Bria
Smith and Roz
Currie teamed up for a 9-8 (7-5 tie-breaker) win over
Abby Funabiki and Alyssa Morrison at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, 2006 all-conference players Feltus and Petrzelka had
straight set wins at the top two positions. Feltus beat Kam, 6-2,
6-2, at No. 1, and Petrzelka topped Butler, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 2.
The other PLU singles points came from Coats, who beat Younger 7-5,
6-4 at No. 5, and from Tracy
Fujitani, who stopped A.J. Omens, 7-5, 6-0, at No.
6.
Willamette picked up wins from Anderson at No. 3 and from Morrison
at No. 4 singles. Anderson beat Currie, 6-4, 6-1, and Morrison topped
Smith in a hotly contested tie-breaker, 2-6, 6-4 (11-9).
Pacific Lutheran returns to action at 11 a.m. Sunday with a Northwest
Conference match at Puget Sound. Willamette, which is now 2-5 in
dual matches this season, is back in action on March 3 with a conference
match at Lewis & Clark.
