Lutes Knock off Bearcats, but Fall to the
Loggers
THIS WEEK: The Pacific Lutheran women’s
tennis team will host Whitworth at 10 a.m. Saturday. Sunday, the
Lutes will host Whitman at 11 a.m.
MIXED RESULTS: The Lutes won their first match
last weekend as they topped Willamette, 7-2. The Lutes started out
the match by winning all three doubles points. PLU's No. 1 doubles
team of Erika Feltus and Nicole Petrzelka defeated Alaine Anderson
and Tiffany Kam, 8-5, to get the Lutes off to a solid start. Megan
Proffitt and Ashley Coats combined for an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles,
and Bria Smith and Roz Currie teamed up for a 9-8 (7-5 tie-breaker)
win at No. 3 doubles. In singles, 2006 all-conference players Feltus
and Petrzelka had straight set wins at the top two positions. Feltus
won 6-2, 6-2, at No. 1, and Petrzelka followed with a 6-3, 6-1 win,
at No. 2. The other PLU singles points came from Coats, 7-5, 6-4,
at No. 5, and from Tracy Fujitani, who won, 7-5, 6-0, at No. 6.
Willamette picked up wins at the No. 3 and No. 4 singles sopts.
The Puget Sound match did not go as well for the Lutes as the Loggers
were able to beat PLU, 6-3. The Pacific Lutheran highlights were
when the No. 1 doubles team of Feltus and Petrzelka won their match,
8-3. In singles, Feltus and Coats were both able to win their respective
matchs. The Lutes left the weekend with a 3-1 record and they are
currently tied for second in the Northwest Conference.
NWC HONORS FELTUS: Junior Erika Feltus was honored as the
Northwest Conference women’s tennis player of the week. Feltus
led the Lutes in the Willamette match by winning her No. 1 singles
match as well as winning her No. 1 doubles match. Feltus also won
both her matches in the UPS match, and she is unbeaten in both singles
and doubles this season.
