Lutes Sweep George Fox, Improve to 5-2

BEAVERTON, Ore. - In a Northwest Conference women’s tennis match moved indoors because of inclement weather, the visiting Pacific Lutheran University Lutes swept the George Fox University Bruins 9-0 Saturday afternoon here at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center.

In the match-opening doubles, Pacific Lutheran’s Erika Feltus and Nicole Petrzelka downed George Fox’s Valerie Ring and Alayna Shaw 8-4 at #1, Megan Proffitt and Ashley Coats dropped Lindsay Hagler and Linsey Wages 8-3 at #2, and Bria Smith and Roz Currie knocked off Brittany Ekstrom and Leilani Jackson 8-2 at #3.

The Lutes swept the singles in straight sets as Feltus downed Hagler 6-1, 6-0 at #1, Petrzelka defeated Ring 6-2, 6-2 at #2, Smith dropped Rebecca Crinnion 6-1, 6-2 at #3, Coats turned away Jackson 6-3, 6-4 at #4, Currie conquered Ekstrom 6-1, 6-0 at #5, and Tracy Fujitani closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Shanna Lesire at #6.

George Fox (1-7, NWC 1-6) visits Linfield College Sunday for a conference match at 2 p.m. Pacific Lutheran (5-2, NWC 5-2) plays at Linfield Sunday at 10 a.m.
