Lutes Sweep Pacific in NWC Women’s
Tennis
TACOMA, Wash. – Pacific Lutheran swept the visiting Pacific
Boxers, 9-0, in a Northwest Conference women’s tennis match
played on a sunny and warm Friday afternoon at the PLU tennis courts.
With the victory, the Lutes improve to 6-3 overall and in conference
matches. Pacific is now 0-11 overall and 0-9 in the conference.
Pacific put up a tough battle in two of the three doubles matches,
but the Lutes prevailed in all three to get off to a good start.
Erika Feltus and Nicole Petrzelka improved to 7-1 at No. 1 doubles
with an 8-4 win over Dayna Wong and Jaime Yoshino, and Roz Currie
and Bria Smith fought off a challenge from Tessa Krebs and Sophie
Waddington at No. 3 before recording an 8-6 win. Megan Proffitt
and Ashley Coats had no trouble at No. 2 doubles, taking an 8-0
win over Ashley Spahn and Laura Swenson.
In singles action, Feltus improved to 8-1 this season with a 6-2,
6-0 victory over Wong, and Petrzelka also improved to 8-1 at No.
2 with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Yoshino. Other Lutes winning singles
matches were Smith, Coats, Roz Currie and Liz Currey.
Both teams play Northwest Conference matches on Saturday, Pacific
Lutheran hosting the Lewis & Clark Pioneers at noon and Pacific
playing at home against Puget Sound.
