Lute Women Finish Spring Trip With Two Wins

OAKLAND, Calif. – Pacific Lutheran picked up a pair of wins on Wednesday and Thursday to wrap up their Spring Break trip to California.

The Lutes had been scheduled to play Wednesday at Sonoma State, but the host school has to cancel the match. PLU was able to pick up a match with Notre Dame de Namur in its place and picked up an easy 7-0 win. On Thursday, PLU closed out the brief three-match trip with a 9-0 victory, this one against Mills College. Earlier, PLU beat Santa Rosa JC, 8-1, in an exhibition match.

Notre Dame de Namur is in its first year of collegiate women’s tennis and the California school had only five players. As a result, matches were not played at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. PLU head coach Janel McFeat sat out her top two players, Erika Feltus and Nicole Petrzelka, and the Lutes still had not trouble picking up the win. PLU lost just three games combined in doubles and singles play.

Against Mills College, Feltus and Petrzelka returned to the lineup and led the Lutes to another easy win. PLU dropped only four games in doubles and just 12 more total in the six singles matches.

With the victories, Pacific Lutheran improves to 9-3 overall. The Lutes return to action this weekend with a pair of Northwest Conference matches. PLU will play against Willamette in Salem, Ore., at 1 p.m. Saturday, then returns home for a match against Puget Sound at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
