Lutes Advance at ITA Tournament

WALLA WALLA – Pacific Lutheran tennis players had a good first-day showing Friday at the PNW/ITA Regionals hosted by Whitman College.

In men's singles, five Pacific Lutheran players advanced into the final 16, and all will face Whitman opponents. Advancing with a first-round bye and a second-round win were No. 3 seed David Miller, No. 5 seed Kevin Floyd, No. 7 seed John DeMars, No.8 seed Justin Larimore and No. 9 seed Jeff Loranger.

In men’s doubles, two PLU teams have reached the quarterfinal round. Miller and Larimore are the No. 1 seed, and Floyd and Loranger are the No. 4 seed.

In women’s singles, three PLU players are into the round of 16. No. 4 seed Nicole Petrzella will play her unseeded teammate Megan Proffitt, and No. 7 seed Erika Feltus will play a Whitman opponent. Petrzella and Feltus both had a bye and win, while Proffitt had to defeat two singles foes to reach the round of 16.

The doubles teams of Feltus-Petrzella and Proffitt and Bria Smith are also in the quarterfinal round.

The tournament continues through Sunday.
