PLU
8, UPS 1
TACOMA – Pacific Lutheran improved its overall and Northwest
Conference records to 3-1 with an easy 8-1 victory over the host
Puget Sound Loggers on Sunday afternoon.
The Lutes got off to a good start with wins in all three doubles
matches, though the individual matches were close and ended in 8-6
scores. Erika Feltus and Ashley Coats defeated Katie Schultz and
Sam Taylor at No. 1, Liz Currey and Emily Starr beat Alissa Wolfe
and Ashley Spencer at No. 2, and Ashley Brooks and Morgan Jones
topped Rochelle Hebert and Ashley Dombrow at No. 3.
The singles competition was not nearly as close as the Lutes won
in straight sets in four of their five victories. In order, the
winners were Feltus, Currey, Coats, Brooks and Starr. Puget Sound's
only win came from Penny Horowitz at No. 6 singles.
Pacific Lutheran returns to action next weekend with Northwest
Conference road matches against Whitworth on Saturday and Whitman
on Sunday.
