Lutes Sweep Puget Sound in Season Series

TACOMA – Pacific Lutheran swept the two-match Northwest Conference women's tennis season series from Puget Sound, easily beating the Loggers on Sunday afternoon by a 9-0 score. The match was played at the UPS Tennis Pavilion.

The Lutes continued their outstanding play with their fourth consecutive victory and are now 8-7 for the season and 6-6 in the conference.

Things got off to a great start as the Lutes lost just 10 total games in sweeping the doubles matches. Erika Feltus and Ashley Coats improved their record at No. 1 doubles to 9-4 with an 8-4 win over Sam Taylor and Rochelle Hebert. Liz Currey and Ashley Brooks won for the fourth time in six matches at No. 2 doubles, whipping Alissa Wolfe and Ashley Spencer by an 8-2 score. Emily Starr and Morgan Jones played together for the first time at No. 3 doubles and defeated Ashley Dombrow and Julie Simmons, 8-4.

The Lutes swept the six singles matches without losing a set. Erika Feltus, 8-7 this season, set the stage by crusing past Taylor, 6-1, 6-0. Currey improved to 10-5 at No. 2 singles with a 6-3, 6-0 triumph over Wolfe, while Coats moved to 11-4 at No. 3 singles with a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Spencer. Brooks is now 10-5 at No. 4 singles after a 6-3, 6-2 win over Hebert, and Ham improved to 4-2 at No. 5 singles with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Penny Horowitz. Morgan Jones wrapped up the Lute sweep with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Tanya Rogers, and she is now 3-3 in singles competition for the season.

Pacific Lutheran returns to action this coming weekend with matches against Whitman at 4 p.m. Friday and Whitworth at 3 p.m. Saturday.
