Lutheran women's tennis has proven annually to be
among the top small college programs in the region.
Certainly, PLU has been very successful in the tough
Northwest Conference with 15 team titles in the
past 27 years.
Lorrie Wood, who has been playing or teaching tennis
for 29 years in the Pacific Northwest, is the interim
head coach of the PLU women’s tennis team.
Wood took the position in July 2007, replacing Janel
McFeat, who stepped down after compiling a 56-44
dual match record in five years as the head coach.
Wood, a resident of Fox Island, played
tennis at Green River Community College in 1979-80
and at the University of Washington from 1980-82.
She earned one varsity letter during the 1982 season
as a member of the Husky women’s tennis team.
She has been an assistant coach with the Gig Harbor
High School boys tennis program since 2005, at the
same time serving as the Fox Island summer junior
tennis program’s head instructor.
As usual, the Lutes' schedule will
be liberally sprinkled with outstanding competition.
In addition to playing the best teams in the Pacific
Northwest, PLU also makes spring break trips to
face top-notch teams. In recent years the Lutes
have spent a week in the southeastern part of the
country, in California and Hawaii.
