Gogert Leads Lute Women
to Third-Place Finish

ESTACADA, Ore. - Freshman Corrine Gogert placed
ninth overall to lead a strong PLU showing at the Lewis &
Clark Invitational held Saturday morning at McIver State Park.
Gogert clocked 23:51 over the six-kilometer course
and two other Lutes finished in the top 13 as PLU finished in
third place in the women's race. Whitman won the nine-team women's
competition with 57 points, followed by Corban with 78 and PLU
with 85.
Finishing behind Gogert were senior Lauren McDonald,
12th in a time of 23:58, and sophomore Katie Choate, 13th in
a time of 24:01. Rounding out the top five PLU women finishers
were Lexie Miller, 23rd in 24:39, and Mary Wuest, 30th in 24:50.
The Lutes placed sixth out of eight teams in the
men's competition. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, a regional power,
won the event with 29 points, followed by Linfield with 71 and
Whitman with 75. Pacific Lutheran ended up with 140 points.
Pacing the PLU men was senior Mike Jorgensen,
21st overall in a time of 27:21 over the eight-kilometer course.
The rest of the top for for PLU were Kenneth Chilcoat, 26th
in a time of 27:32, Ben Johnson, 29th in a time of 27:34, Mark
Manske, 67th in a time of 30:46, and Stephen McBeth, 68th in
a time of 30:47.
Next Saturday, the Lutes will head to Lincoln
Park in Seattle for the University of Washington’s Sundodger
Invitational. More than 800 athletes from 45 teams will be running.
