Small Squad Travels To
Sundodger
THIS WEEK: The
Pacific Lutheran cross country team will travel to Lincoln Park
in West Seattle this Saturday to take part in the Sundodger
Invitational which is hosted by the University of Washington.
The women’s race starts at 9 a.m. with the men’s
starting at 9:40 a.m.
WOMEN TAKE THIRD AT L&C: Freshman Corrine
Gogert placed ninth overall to lead a strong PLU showing at
the Lewis & Clark Invitational held last week at McIver
State Park. Gogert clocked 23:51 over the six-kilometer course
and two other Lutes finished in the top 13 as PLU finished in
third place in the women's race. Whitman won the nine-team women's
competition with 57 points, followed by Corban with 78 and PLU
with 85. Finishing behind Gogert were senior Lauren McDonald,
12th in a time of 23:58, and sophomore Katie Choate, 13th in
a time of 24:01. Rounding out the top five PLU women finishers
were Lexie Miller, 23rd in 24:39, and Mary Wuest, 30th in 24:50.
SMALL SQUAD HURTS MEN’S TEAM: The men’s
squad did not share the same success as the women’s at
last weeks meet. With only six runners entered in the race the
Lutes didn’t have any room for error. Senior Michael Jorgenson
led the way with a time of 27:21 good for 21st place. A few
spots behind him were fellow seniors Kenneth Chilcoat and Ben
Johnson coming across in 27:32 and 27:34. Rounding out the top
five were Mark Manske and Stephen McBeth who ran 30:46 and 30:47
respectively. The Lutes ended up sixth out of eight in the final
team standings.
LUTES HEAD NORTH: The Lutes will be taking
eight runners to the Sundodger Invitational this Saturday. Five
women and three men will be competing in one of the largest
cross country races in the Northwest. The rest of the team will
run a time trial Saturday morning in Parkland.
