Health Promotion

Objective- Demonstrate the ability to incorporate the dimensions of person, nursing, and environment to promote health in a variety of nursing situations.

Health Promotion with CHF Client & Young Children

In Nurs 270 I worked one on one with a CHF client to promote my clients health. Every week I helped reinforce discharge instructions that included diet modification, increasing activity level, weighing oneself daily, ect. In addition I provided emotional support and helped my client navigate the health care system. All efforts were aimed towards health promotion.

Weekly Phone Call Questionnaire to Promote Health

Also in Nurs 270 I worked with a fellow peer to teach 3 year old children proper technique of hand washing to decrease the chances of acquiring a food borne illness to promote food safety.

My Nursing Philosophy

My assumptions about nursing

The core of nursing is: Care

The focus of nursing is: Health maintenance & improvement

My beliefs about persons, health, & environment are:

Persons: Includes individuals, families, and communities. Each individual is autonomous but relies on others.

Health: Is subjective and defined by each person.

Environment: Internal and external environment. Each plays an important role.

My beliefs about the outcomes of nursing: The goal is to meet the needs of each client to the best of my ability.

My beliefs about how to facilitate health: To facilitate health, education is the foundation. From there access to care is essential.

How will I live out my philosophy in practice: The most important thing is to not forget nursing is about helping the client achieve their goals. From there it is my responsibility to use all available resources to reach my client reach their goal.
