Coat of Arms![]() |

Coat of arms These are the values that sum up what I think a nurse needs to have. I know Wikipedia is'nt a good evidence based resource, but I like the way my choices in my coat of arms are defined. CompassionCompassion is a profound human emotion prompted by the pain of others. More vigorous than empathy, the feeling commonly gives rise to an active desire to alleviate another's suffering. It is often, though not inevitably, the key component in what manifests in the social context as altruism. In ethical terms, the various expressions down the ages of the so-called Golden rule embody by implication the principle of compassion: Do to others as you would have done to you. Ranked a great virtue in numerous philosophies, compassion is considered in all the major religious traditions as among the greatest of virtues.DutyDuty, is a term that conveys a sense of moral commitment to someone or something. The moral commitment is the sort that results in action, and it is not a matter of passive feeling or mere recognition. When someone recognizes a duty, that person commits himself/herself to the cause involved without considering the self-interested courses of actions that may have been relevant previously. This is not to suggest that living a life of duty precludes one from the best sort of life, but duty does involve some sacrifice of immediate self-interest.TeamworkTeamwork is defined in Webster's New World Dictionary as "a joint action by a group of people, in which each person subordinates his or her individual interests and opinions to the unity and efficiency of the group." This does not mean that the individual is no longer important; however, it does mean that effective and efficient teamwork goes beyond individual accomplishments. The most effective teamwork is produced when all the individuals involved harmonize their contributions and work towards a common goal.Camaraderie" A good cause can become bad if we fight for it with means that are indiscriminately murderous. A bad cause can become good if enough people fight for it in a spirit of comradeship and self-sacrifice. In the end it is how you fight, as much as why you fight, that makes your cause good or bad."Freeman Dyson, English physicist Integrityhttp://plato.stanford.edu/entries/integrity/SpiritualitySpirituality as a way of life concerns itself with aligning the human will and
mind with that dimension of life and the universe that is harmonious and
ordered. As such spiritual disciplines (which are often part of an established
religious tradition) enjoin practitioners (trainees or disciples) to cultivate
those higher potentialities of the human being that are more noble and refined
(wisdom and virtue). Accordingly, many spiritual traditions across diverse
cultures share similar vocabulary. Terms such as the "path", the "work", the
"practice" are universally applied to the ongoing discipline involved in
transforming the coarser energies present in the human soul into more subtle and
pleasing ones. As a spiritual practitioner one seeks to become free of the
lesser egoic self (or ego) in favor of being more fully one's
"true" "Self".Defining NursingI like the description of what a nurse is and does in Wilkinson p.6, "Nursing is concerned with the whole person, ill or well. Nurses support ill people and help them to solve or reduce their health problems; they help patients to adapt to and accept problems that cannot be treated; and they help those who are terminally ill to achieve a peaceful death. For well people, nurses aim to prevent illness and promote wellness. This may involve a variety of activities, such as role- modeling a healthy lifestyle, being an advocate for community environmental changes, or teaching self-care strategies, decision making, and problem solving." |

There is another theory which states that this has already happened." Douglas Adams |
