Life Through Recreation

guiding handA Life Well Lived

"Recreation's purpose is not to kill time but to make life, not to keep a person occupied, but to keep them refreshed; not to offer an escape from life, but to provide a discovery of life."

Course Objectives and Goals

I feel that the education I received in this course completely fulfilled the objectives and goals that were set forth in the beginning of the semester. The course allowed myself to identify comprehensively the needs it takes to plan a specific program, the impact and benefits for various recreational and leisure services today, and the ability to start and deliver a specific program professionally.

Assigning myself a grade based on the work I have done, the knowledge and skills I have learned, and the level of commitment I had towards the course I feel that a (B) would be legit.

The  course readings, assignments, guest speakers and discussions not only provided myself with a greater sense and knowledge of recreational programming, but above all the love and passion one has to have for recreation. Without a passion in life there seems to be no sense of living let alone truly succeeding.

Where will I go from here?

Now that I have been shown how to plan and keep a program there are so many ideas that I have for the future. I didn't realize how much recreation actually consists of until I took this course. I now see that I can have a career which I love to do, but most importantly being able to show others the opportunities and lifestyle that come from having recreation in one's life.

"You're alive. Do something. The directive in life, the moral imperative was so uncomplicated. It could be expressed in single words, not complete sentences. It sounded like this: Look. Listen. Choose. Act."       Barbara Hall
