Personal Strengths It seems so much easier to define my weaknesses than to define my strengths. However, I have seen throughout my time at PLU and in growing and changing as a person that there are many strengths which I have encompassed. My ability to accept change and to adapt with an ever changing society. I have seen throughout my life that one of the best skills to have is to adapt with change. Life is never going to stay EXACTLY the same and one needs to know how to adapt to those changes. I feel that one needs to be able to adapt to changes in order to be a good manager. If a person is not open to new ideas, ways of thinking, habits, routines, etc. than not only is it difficult for the employees to work but it also is difficult to keep one's clientele. My ability to persevere on even when times are tough and stress overwhelms me. My best work seems to come when a deadline is close. Sometime this can be a bad trait though as I seem to procrastinate a lot of projects that I could have started earlier. My weaknesses There are many weaknesses I have which I need to change in order to be a good manager. However, I will only name a few. The first would have to be time management. I have become better at managing my time, yet I still think I can improve. If a person doesn't manage their time well, it makes it so much harder to manage people if in a management position. The second is displaying good leadership and showing one's team how to be effective and efficient all the time. With efficiency comes success and before a company and manager can be successful they must first be effective in what they do. Lastly, I need to not take on so many tasks which I can disperse among others. I have a tendency to think that my way is the only way, which can be one of the worst traits a manager can have. I am slowly getting better at not only hearing other people's points of view but also letting them start and finish the project the way they thought it would work best. |
What to change... 'A good manager is best when people barely know they exist. Not so good when people obey and acclaim them. Worse when they despise them.' -Lao-Tzu (Chinese philosopher-604 BC-531BC)
My future as a manager... I believe that with the classes, information and knowledge I have learned in this course and all of my classes at Pacific Lutheran University that I will be a successful manager in whatever I may choose to do. There are going to be times when I doubt myself, yet need to remember that I have the skills, tools, and information needed to be a good manager. I believe the best manager one can be is to be good at managing their own life before they can manage other's. It seems to me that if you can't manage your own life how can one possibly manage others in a way that will not only benefit their employees but keep each and every employees best interests in mind at all times. I think this has been the best lesson I have learned so far in my time here at Pacific Lutheran University and with it I need to know that it isn't up to anyone else to manage my life and make choices for me but it is up to myself. From this, I already feel like I am on the right track to making the best decisions just from deciding to further my education and going on to college. I have learned so much more than I could ever imagine in my three years here at Pacific Lutheran University, yet I feel there is so much more for me to learn. |
