Donna Horton's Portfolio

Hello & Welcome!

Thank you for visiting my portfolio.  This portfolio will follow and grow with me throughout my journey from a new student nurse at Pacific Lutheran University through graduation in December 2010.

You are welcome to read my first paper I wrote in this program.  The paper is from N220 and in it I talk about what influenced me to go into Nursing.

Who I am...

me

Hello and welcome to my portfolio!  My name is Donna Horton and I am about to complete my Sophomore II semester at Pacific Lutheran University's School of Nursing.  I can't believe how fast time has flown by this first year!

When I am not at school or at home studying I am working as a Nurse Tech for Franciscan Health Care System.  I have already learned so much with the guidance and tools that the nursing program has provided me with this past year, and I am so excited and optimistic about what the next two years will hold for me.

My family and husband have been here along the way giving me that extra boost when I need it.  They have given me unbelievable amounts of love and support. I could never do this with out them!

Where I am going...

1 year plan: In the next year I hope to keep my grades up and transfer to an OR Nurse Tech position at my work. I plan on spending time with my husband, and I am excited for our new addition due this summer!

5 year plan: After completing the program at P.L.U. I hope to work in the I.C.U at U.W. Medical Center.

Long Term Plan: Eventually I want to complete a Doctorates program for Nurse Anesthetist after gaining critical care experience.  I currently work in the surgical department and enjoy every minute of it!

Tips for an upcoming Sophomore II

Its true...Pathophysiology is hard!

I know that you are probably nervous for next semester, but believe me...you will make it if you put the time into it.  Realize now that earning a B is excellent and something to be proud of.  Still strive for that A, but don't beat yourself up about it. Try to enjoy this semester despite the challenges it puts before you.  If you keep an open mind it will be over before you know it, and the classes will arm you with more tools to stick in that belt of yours!  I wish you luck and sanity this upcoming semester.

Lots of Love,

A Patho Survivor

PS: Time management is the key!
