Serving for Others & Your Community

I believe that people should give back in some positive way for their community.  Being in a military family there is the saying that when you join any branch of the military then you are also saying you are serving for your country with your life on the line.  But you don't have to be in the military to be involved, because I enjoy giving back to my community by being involved with my church events, a member of the Beta Alpha Psi Honor Society, participating in the PLU walk of the "Relay for Life" and many more.

Involvement

I have always volunteered since I was a little girl.  My mother was the first person I followed; because where ever she volunteered or helped I would try to help in any way I could, too.  I never can stop volunteering, even if is just a little bit of my time as a busy person.  The number one thing about volunteering is that anybody can do it no matter who you are, which means that you don’t have to be a specialist or need a certain talent.  There are no requirements but to be there on time and do your work.  When ever I volunteer it makes me feel better about myself and the others that I helped, because you are making a difference.  Also people that volunteer show how they care for other people besides themselves and not self-centered.  I feel like a hero or hope to inspire and become an example for others.

I have volunteer at several events and in various clubs and organizations, such as the Olympic College Chapter “Beta Gamma Eta” of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society (PTK), Girl Scouts, my church and other school events.  My volunteering skills vary from decorating conference rooms to tutoring other students.  Volunteering is one of the easiest things that I can adapt to no matter where I go.  Sometimes it may be hard to move away from your family and friends, because you have to adjust and change to another environment, home, and neighbors in your new neighborhood, especially out of state but not volunteering.  So, my key word for volunteering is “anybody,” because remember anybody can volunteer and all that it takes is some of your time.

Ways of Changing

Being involved with others can change a person's life.
