» ObjectiveApply the nursing process in the provision of direct and indirect care of individuals, families, and communities in a variety of settings and across diverse populations. ![]() » Nursing 220 I was able to spend half the class semester working with older adults in a long term care facility here. I preformed basic skills, and this hands on care made me see how caring from the elderly is different than caring for others. The hands on experience at this long term care facility really set the stage for my following clinicals by providing me with the foundations to care for people. I was also fortunate enough to be able to spend time with the restorative aid who worked in this care facility, as well as the wound care nurse. For all the patients I have cared see my Record of Clinical Practice. » Nursing 270 The focus in 270 was health promotion and how we could help people to see how big of an impact they have on their own health. The Teaching project allowed us to teach our piers about self breast exams. Teaching them took a very different set of skills than providing care to the elderly. The beginning of the CHF program began this year. This is a collaborative effort with Multicare in which each nursing student is assigned to a client suffering with CHF. My client has just been recently diagnosed so I am therefore able to teach him more about his condition. We talk about what to look for, however he is monitoring his condition very well, and he is fortunate enough to have a very caring wife who also helps to care for him (watch his diet). Meeting Objectives and ReflectionThe nursing process will always be a part of how we work and how we live. In nursing 220, we had our first hands on experience and I think that there, I was more concerned with the functional tasks, and less on the process itself. In nursing 270, the project was based on the nursing process and how we were to teach our piers. Teaching college students is very different than teaching older adults information. My CHF client is a good opportunity for us to focus on both health promotion and physical assessments. I think this will hold true as the program continues. |
