Participate in processes to influence the the health care delivery system.
»Nursing 220 Our clinicals at Linden Grove were very meaningful for me and I can say I learned so much from the experience. Not only did we participate in a team with the nurses to provide care to these patients, we also learned the importance of CNA's and restorative aids. The people I would have not expected to play such a vital role in the organization showed me more than some of the nurses. A huge meeting was held on the last day of our clinicals and we spoke with one of the main managers who helped run the facility. We were able to voice the things we enjoyed about the facility and things we thought needed improvement. This was a huge learning experience for them as well and I believe that our group made a positive influence on changes that needed to be made.
»Nursing 260 This class was a very large overview of nursing. Legalities, ethics, theories and processes were just a few of the main focuses in the class. One major way we participated in a process was that we did a lot of group presentations and assignments, which allowed us as nurses to practice communication and collaboration. Several of the powerpoint presentations were not graded, but they forced us to work out the kinks in group working so we were able to write and present an important paper at the end of the semester. Our group wrote a Paper on Childhood Immunizations and a powerpoint was made for it as well. Although minor problems did occur, we managed to work together to research and write this paper.
»Nursing 270 In this class, the CHF program is a new addition for PLU. It has allowed us to contact our individual patients and talk to them about their condition and connect with them. Because they were our only patient over the semester, more time was put into them and they were able to be cared for holistically. Through our observations and data recordings, we reported back to Multicare. This program allows us to help Multicare establish better care for their HF patients through our communication with them.
Meeting Objectives and Reflection
Although other classes will provide us with more opportunity to better influence the health care delivery system, building up from the bottom makes us stronger nurses. We have only started at the bottom and I think as we progress, our influence will become more important as we see how much of an impact we really are.
