Most of my leadership experience comes from High School, I failed to get more involved my first year here at PLU because I wanted to make sure school work was my main priority, but I have plans for next year and how I am going to be more involved in leadership.
This coming year I have stepped up and taken on a few leadership positions. I will be an orientation guide for the incoming students next year, and I have also recently become the community involvement coordinator for my resident hall! I can not wait to be involved with the planning of fun activities for students and welcoming in the new. I have had a great first year experience here at PLU, and I would love to help give others that same experience.
High School
The
first leadership position I ever held was Team Capitan of our Ski Team
my sophomore year. Oregon is the only state that has high school ski
racing as completive school sport. I helped organize and sometimes even
ran practice. Delegating duties was also a huge part of my job,
considering if not everyone helped on training days (because it took so
long to set up) practice would be rather short and unsuccessful. I
also had to make sure all athletes were prepared for the race coming
up.
Peer mentoring was another great leadership
experience. although I was not leading a group of people, I had
influence on the people I was mentoring. I had to lead by example and
provide a positive confidential atmosphere.
I was also a
leader of my senior classes Community 101 project. For this position I
had to organize my class and give them frequent updates on how the
project was coming along. All the seniors were supposed to be apart of
this project and it was one of my duties to make sure they were
constantly informed of the projects progress.
