Aztecs Gods

Conclusion: Life and Death

The Connection Between Life and Death

We began researching for information on Coatlicue. We noticed that she stood for life and rebirth. As we researched more and more we often found that Mictlantecutli's name was tied to Coatlicue's because of the correlation between life and death. As we researched more we even found that the Statue of Coatlicue is often referred to as gripping onto the roof of the underworld. Seeing this drew a direct connection between the two Gods and the idea of Life and Death. Also, Coatlicue is often seen as the goddess that represents life, death, and rebirth, Mictlantecutli’s skeletal depiction is often seen as a sign of fertility, health, and abundance along with that idea that he bears all souls and gives life to some. It seems that the more we looked into these two Gods the more similar they seemed to be. So we thought it would be an interesting idea to incorporate Mictlantecutli into our website and show people there areas of similarity within the Aztec Religion.
