The
approaches to programming that I would utilize to development my
program would be marketing,
community development, and social planning.
I feel
that marketing, community development, and social planning are all very
important approaches in developing a strong and effective program. Marketing
is a great way to capture the need of the people in the community.
“Marketing is defined as a process of human exchange whereby people
exchange something of vvalue for something they need” (D. DeGraaf, K.
DeGraaf, & Jordan, 2005, p. 38).
Social planning would also be helpful by bringing together every
type of culture, age, gender, and race in the community. “Social planning
is a task-oriented strategy directed toward rationally and logically
distributing community resources” (D. DeGraaf, K. DeGraaf, & Jordan,
2005, p. 35). On top of marketing and social planning, community
development would be the final approach in the development of my program.
Community development would strengthen the partnerships within the
community as well as the communication. So, community development is
beneficial to the community socially and brining everyone together, no
matter the differences. These are just a few reasons why I chose these
three approaches to build my program.
In the
process of forming my strategy, I will research the percentages of my targeted
area, in order to gain a clear knowledge about the people in that area. I
will have to get to know the community I choose to reach and be able to
build programs that will meet the needs of each type of person. The
programs must be beneficial to the individuals within the community. I will put together community events and
programs for all ages, that
focus on each approach that I have chosen.
4. Marketing is a process of human exchange whereby people exchange something of value for something they need. This means that the ultimate goal is to influence the behavior of the target audience. I believe that this is a very successful way to capture the community as a whole. Community development is process-oriented and assumes that individuals should be partners in the process of determining their leisure destiny. The aim of community development is to stimulate local initiative, build channels of communication, and to improve the social, economic and cultural well-being of community residents. Last of all, social planning is task-oriented with the approach of forming programs to fill the social needs of the community. These are the key components of each approach.
Through
much creativity, through time and research, these elements will be
manifested throughout the programming process, making each leisure
activity useful and beneficial to our community. Needs assessments will be
used to identify the needs within the community and the individuals of the
community. This will be the most effective way.
