My name is Meghan Berry. I am a senior at Pacific Lutheran University. Here is a little bit of background on my
education and my career goals.
I began my college experience with early acceptance into Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State
University, or Virginia Tech, intending to finish with a five year
masters in math education. After a year and a half of advanced calculus
I realized that while I enjoyed math and working with people, a career
in education was not for me. By this point in my life my parents had
moved to Washington state from Richmond, Virginia and offered me my old
room back, in a brand new house across the country. I took the
opportunity to see a new part of the country and transferred to Tacoma
Community College, where I received my associates degree in business
administration. While studying at TCC I heard about Pacific Lutheran
University and decided to look into the school. I quickly fell in love
with the campus, small class sizes and most importantly, the people. I
intend to graduate May 2008 with a Bachelor's of the Arts in Business
with a concentration in Human Resources and Organizations.
After graduation I am excited to start a career in food service as a General Manager of a restaurant, preferably in fine dining. I have worked in restaurants since I was thirteen years old and have had my share of effective and ineffective managers. I know the restaurant business can be very nerve wracking for employees and an effective manager enforcing solid human resource policies can make all the difference for the work environment. I would like to make food service a pleasant and enjoyable place to work. I am also a very people oriented person and being able to interact with so many different people on any given day, in completely different ways is an exciting adventure that I cannot wait to begin.
