Study abroad:
2nd Feb, 2007, I can always remember that
day. I think that is my life's most important
changing point. I went to America to
study. I left with my parents' exhortation
and my friends' blessing. I knew I would
have to face a lot of challenges from then on.
Every thing was unknown to me at that time. But I did not feel afraid, I
was the person who liked to face challenge.
1. Life obstacle:
Life was easy for me when I was at my home in China. My parents nearly made everything for me, I
only needed to do my homework. But at
that that time, I was not conscious of my comfortable life. Sometimes, I even complained that my life was too
boring. When I arrived at America, I
found that lots of confusing things were waiting for me. I had to solve things by myself. After I
solved those things, I found I was improving, I found I was much more mature than
before.
2. Language obstacle:
When I transferred at San
Francisco, I found I was totally confused about what
other people were talking about. Sometimes, I could
understand the main meaning. Sometimes, I totally had no idea about what they
were talking about. So now my short term
goal was to communicate with local people as much as possible. I want to develop my oral English as quickly
as possible. Now I have made a lot of local friends. I really wish to melt into local
people's life.
3. Study obstacle:
When first day I went to listen to the lecture, I couldn't understand
what the professor was talking about. I
was so worried at that time. But my business
professor always helped me, he always encouraged me. Now still sometimes I didn't understand what
the professor was talking about, but I could feel I was improving. Sometimes I could even understand professor
was telling jokes.
Work experience:
» Before I went
abroad, I went to be a cook assistant in a grand restaurant in Suzhou.
Although it was a short time, I still think I learnt a lot. First, I learnt to cook some delicious Chinese
dishes. Second, I learnt to be a
coordinate between waiters and cooks, because sometimes, the order
cannot spread to the cooks correctly. It was easy to make mistakes, but with me, I
can let these two kinds of people communicate more effectively.
» In China,
I had been a successful waitress in Pizza Hut from Jan 2006 to Feb 2006, because I could always finish the tasks
effectively and efficiently. I think
from this internship I learnt a lot. I
knew how to cooperate with my workmates, how to finish my boss's task, and most
important, how to satisfy my customers.
Volunteer Work:
» In Dec 2005~Jan 2006, I assembled my classmates to visit Suzhou Orphanage.
Talk and Entertain
Conversed with Children
» I plan to join relay for life in May. It is a
PLU community group aiming to raise money for the American Cancer Fund.
Because my classmate Carla Gilmore was the captain of that group, I
told her I would like to join her. She told me that in May they
would have activity. At that time I could go to join them. This group was a little
different from other relay for life team. They don't ask support from other people. They make money by ourselves. They do cookies together, they take care of
community children and so on. I thought this was a meaningful activity. First, it is a non-profit organization; it
helps people who suffer cancer. It can let
people feel confident. Second, this
activity can help me coordinate with each other. It nurtures my leadership potential. Third, it can also let local people know we
Chinese people are also willing to join volunteer work because I represent Chinese. At last, it can gain me valuable experience for my whole life.
» Next semester I also
plan to join another volunteer group. That group aims to let more and more
children get education. We go there to
communicate with poor children and tell storys to them. I believe this work is
very important to our society. It can let more and more children understand how
important education is, and the poor children can gain confidence again.
Traveling:
There is an
old saying "reading thousands of books is not as good as traveling thousands of
miles." in China.
I think my
family members are all energetic. They
like to travel around country. My parents
took me to a lot of places in China.
Beijing: After I graduated from kindergarten, my parents
took me to Beijing. May be at that time I was just a little kid, I couldn't remember my vacation clearly.
I only remember that Beijing is a political place. Everything is so royal and grand, such as the Summer Palace, the Great Wall and so on. I really like this city. I mean the people are so nice, the food is
so delicious.
The Great Wall
Hainan Island: When I was
only 12 years old, after I graduated from elementary school. My parents took me to Hainan Island. This small island let me enjoy beautiful
scenery which is different from my hometown; also I like the fresh fruits and
delicious seafood.
Beautiful Beach
Huangshan Mountain: After I graduated from middle school, my parents took me to Anhui. At the foot of the mountain, there were some
small cities. The cities were built in ancient time. If you ask me which impressed me most, I will tell you that the local people think highly of education and they respect their elder
generations.

Interest:
Almost
everyone is good at one musical instrument. I'm good at a Chinese ancient musical instrument Guqin

I only want to mention that Guqin can reflet people's
character. It means that people who like
to play this instrument are peaceful.
