What role do parents play and how can they help?
There are many things that parents can do to promote career awareness and success! Encourage your daughter or son to do the following:
- Explore different majors and careers. They can try an
interest test, research various career fields in our career library,
take classes that interest them, and try out various options through
internships, summer jobs, etc.
- Participate in an internship or career-related work
experience. An internship can provide a different sort of classroom for
expanding your son's or daughter's learning; it can help them explore
and test hunches about a career field; it can build their resume and
launch their career.
- Become comfortable using technology, including the
Internet. The web contains a wealth of career information. In addition,
employers value technology skills.
- Continue to do well academically.
