Kelsey Lynn's Profile

Community Service

Program Outcome:

Enact the role of service as a professionally educated member of society.

Community Service

Home_(pic) Community service is important not only for the people you help but also for you as an individual. Service is one way to step out of what is going on in your life, such as tests, work and daily stresses, and instead put yourself in someone else's shoes, feel someone else's struggles and think about someone else instead of yourself. Service is especially important  for nurses to give back and also to make an imprint on the community around us. It is a great way to make a difference and play an active role as a community member. As nurses, I also believe it is important to make  changes and promote health prevention within a community.

Delta Iota Chi

I have been actively involved in Delta Iota Chi's service projects, but have not been able to attend enough meetings to be an official member. Next semester I plan to attend meetings and become an official member.

Blood Drive

In fall of 2008 I helped out with the fist blood drive of the year. I helped gather people for the sign up sheets. I really enjoyed not only helping get people to participate in the blood drive, but also facilitates personal growth for me to step out of my comfort zone and meet new people.

Turkey Baskets

Thanksgiving of 2008 I had the opportunity to put together Thanksgiving dinners in laundry baskets. These dinners came from all over campus. Our class sponsored two baskets by collecting food or money donations. The BasketsThanksgiving dinners went to those people in financial need. Dinners included a turkey, stuffing, a bag of potatoes, gravy, rolls, cranberries, pies and other treats as well. I even had the chance to deliever baskets to people personally. It was a really eye opening experience.

Relay for Life

In spring of 2009 I plan on taking part in Relay for Life. This is something that I personally take an interest in. When I has about 6, both of my parents had cancer. We spent the majority of my childhood participating in the Relay for Life at Sparks stadium in Puyallup.
