My Dimensions In this section, I will cover my coat of arms, my philosophy of nursing, and my definition of nursing. As I continue through the Nursing program, I will continue to change and adapt these dimensions. The ability to incorporate the dimensions of holistic health is an important part of becoming a great nurse. No matter which area of nursing that I choose, this skill of being able to include the person, nursing and the environment will improve outcomes and goal achievements. Coat of Arms (clink here to see)My coat of arms encompasses what I believe is important to not only me as an individual, but important to me as a nurse. The hands represent diversity. It is important to not only be aware of diversity among clients but also be culturally competent. The cat and the mirror represent reflection and self-image. It is important to reflect on yourself as an individual but also as a nurse. This way you can be evaluating for areas that need improvement. A nurse should always be growing and not be satisfied. Self-image is also important because it shows confidence, competency, self-worth. A nurse must be able to take care of themselves before they can take care of others to the best of their ability. The rock represents trust. It is important to trust others because trust forms bonds and relationships with others, such as clients to form a rapport with them and therefore be able to better improve their health. The heart made of two people represent love and compassion. As nursing it is important to be able to show compassion and understanding to those clients around you. Even the smallest acts can show compassion and make you a better nurse. The Wisdom quote states "Ask and it will be given, seek and you will find" from Matthew 7:7, I believe that this quote really embodies the wisdom needed to be a good nurse. It shows that if you do not know something you should ask and admitting that you do not know everything. A wise person is also aware that they are competent enough to go and find the answer themselves if they do not know it. Lastly, strength is shown on an art piece of metal. Strength is important because as a nurse there will be good days and bad, hard decisions and loss. Strength is needed to continue day after day and also to share with clients to give hope and strength. Philosophy of NursingPart of my philosophy of nursing is to learn, apply and experience skills and knowledge obtained in nursing school. A nurse should take into an account every individual, their differences, preferences, cultural and ethnic beliefs and values, as well as autonomy when helping to promote a better health. Definition of NursingNursing is personal and therapeutic ability to help an individual, group or community to promote health maintenance or improvement while encompassing the characteristics of that "person". Care should be individualized and support beliefs, values, cultural characteristics that exist. Nursing uses scientific knowledge and research to continue develop better care and understanding of health. Future Classes: The following classes will help me grow as a nurse by expanding my care to different individuals and communities.
