Intro to Me

The jump is so frightening between where I am and where I want to be… because of all I may become I will close my eyes and Leap.

My Life

Me in Flowers Welcome to my online nursing portfolio. My name is Kelsey Carlson. I am a 24 year old nursing student at Pacific Lutheran University. I enjoy making people smile and laugh, especially myself. I have a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from PLU and really enjoy learning about people from the Psychological perspective. One great thing that I have learned from my Psychology degree is the importance of research and how it applies to us as nurses.

In my family I have two younger siblings, happily married parents, a snake, two dogs and and two cats. My sister is in college down in Texas and my brother currently lives in Arizona- yes that leaves me as the only one left in the state. My sister and I are 5 years apart but we are best friends. It is hard to have her far away but we keep up through webcam. My parents met at PLU as college students and married soon after graduation. They now live about five minutes from me and enjoy when I stop by, even if I am grocery shopping in their pantry. I really enjoy my family. We have quite a few traditions and always have get togethers. In my life I have one love, my cat Zoe. She may be a cat, but she acts more like a dog, playing fetch, sitting, standing, and playing hide and go seek. I do hope to get married one day and have my own family, but for now I am happy with my family, Zoe and my great friends.

In my spare time, away from studying and work, I love to spend time with friends, try new things and cook. I also enjoy reading books that are not textbooks. I am very much a summer person and enjoy swimming, camping, hiking and playing in the sun. I have spent most of my life in the water and had my first swim lesson when I was six months old. I really feel at home and stress and worry free when I am in the water. In high school and part of college I swam and played water polo (which is my second love). When I am not in the water, I love to sing. I sing everywhere, and anything. I spent time in youth group in a band called Higher Ground, that lead worship and even put out a CD. While at Western I also got involved with a youth group and participated in the worship team. As you can see my beliefs and relationship with God is closely related to singing. I really enjoy using my gift of singing to worship God.

As of now, I do not know what my future holds. I am excited to finish school and start working as a nurse. I also hope to incorporate my Psychology degree as well. I have a few dreams and goals. I would like to travel to more places, skydive, take cooking classes, learn something new every year, live by the water, learn how to scuba dive and get married and have a family.

Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, “I will try again tomorrow.”
