Participate in processes to influence the health care delivery system.

planned parenthood

Evidence of Participation:

» Participation is the first step toward being able to influence and change the health care delivery system. I know that in a group or as an individual, we can influence the health care system by legislative changes. The first and most important way that I can do this is by first being an informed member of the nursing society and secondly, being a social advocate and participating in movements.

»  Nursing 260, Professional Foundations I, has taught me about some of the problems and made me aware that changes are needed in the health care system. The way society views nurses needs to be changed. I can influence this by the way that I conduct myself in a professional matter and stand up against programs and TV shows that do not reflect an accurate portrayal of nursing. In addition, this class looked at 6 hot topic issues and discussed both sides of the argument. Discussion and information given during these presentations increased my awareness of these issues and how they will affect me as a nurse in practice. My group covered parental rights over their children's reproductive rights. Three topics were covered; abortion, contraceptives, and STD and HIV testing. This topic looked at the rights of teenagers in Washington and whether parents should have consent or rights to know what is going on with their teenagers reproductive choices. The group paper was written and can be found under links on this page.
