Falls and the Older Adult: A Holistic Approach to Identifying and Managing Risks and Consequences Friday, March 19, 2010, 12:30-4:30 pm, Lewis-Mason-Thurston Area Agency on Aging, Olympia, WA
Among older adults, falls are the leading cause of injury deaths, and they are also the most common cause of non-fatal injuries and hospital admissions for trauma. This workshop will address the many issues that lead to falls in the elderly and will provide students with various methods of risk analysis and options for managing those risks. Emphasis will be on individualized client assessment and prevention strategies that are both realistic and functional. Time will be spent identifying the holistic after-effects of a fall on the older person as well as creative approaches to minimizing the likelihood of future falls.
