Chem Club Receives ACS Grant for Hydrogen Fuel Cell Demonstrations
| The Chem Club received a grant from the American Chemical Society Puget Sound Section to purchase two hydrogen fuel cell model cars, to be used as demonstrations of power from alternative energy sources. Club members will use the models at science outreach activities with pre-college students, including the upcoming Desserts and Demos event (see below), which will be held in April prior to Earth Day. The club hopes to raise awareness of 'green' power, and promote the role of chemistry in finding environmentally-friendly options. Danny Hibbard and Mycah Uehling submitted the grant. |
| Planning is underway for our next Desserts and Demos
chemistry outreach event. Students and teachers from local
schools will be coming to campus for liquid nitrogen ice cream
and desserts, hands-on chemistry activities, and some of favorite and flashy chemical
demonstrationsthe to be done by PLU Chem
faculty and students. Contact one of the officers
below if you are interested in helping out. It's
always a great deal of fun, and also an important way to share
enthusiasm about chemistry with the community. Desserts and Demos
will be held in the evening on one of the of
the following dates: April 15, 16, or 17, 2008. We'll
update
this page when the date is settled. |
