Communication 387: Norway & Balkans - Dialog/Conference

This course is co-taught by Amanda Feller and Steinar Bryn.

Dr. Feller teaches in the School of Arts & Communication. One area of her scholarship focuses on transformative theory, experiential learning, and dialogue. She has applied this work to the Nansen Virtual Dialogue Network established by Dr. Bryn.

Dr. Bryn is the director of the “Democracy, Human Rights and Peaceful Conflict Resolution” project at Nansenskolen in Lillehammer, Norway. He regularly uses dialogue to engage conflict with those in the Balkan region, especially those seeking new ways of interacting and being.

This course is a study of Norway’s peace and democracy building efforts in the Balkan region. The course is also an exploration of communication theory; presenting the principles and practices of managing conflict with an emphasis on dialogue.

Additionally, this course will interact with students in COMA 388: Peace Journalism and INTC 200: Approaches to Achieving Social Justice & Peace. Students in all three courses will participate in a conference on related issues and topics. The conference will feature speakers that have worked in a variety of global conflict areas.
